You have the right to be treated fairly, make your own decisions, and live a life that reflects your values, culture, and goals. These rights are protected under both NDIS legislation and the new Statement of Rights in aged care (effective November 1, 2025).
– Make informed choices about the supports you receive
– Be in control of your own life and decisions
– Live independently and take risks (we call this ‘dignity of risk’)
– Practice your culture, values, religion, and beliefs
– Choose who supports you and how
– Have your privacy, identity, and relationships respected
– Be supported in your preferred language or format (e.g. Easy English, Arabic, visual/audio)
– Have a Registered Supporter help you make decisions (for aged care clients from November 1, 2025)
– Access advocacy services when you need independent support
– Raise concerns or complaints without fear of punishment or unfair treatment
– Have your feedback valued and acted upon
– Giving you clear information in ways you understand
– Giving you time to consider your options
– Involving your family, friends, or advocates if you choose
– Supporting your choice of Registered Supporter (aged care clients)
– Listening to your preferences and decisions
– Making sure you understand any risks or benefits of your choices
– Respecting your right to relationships and sexual expression
– Providing culturally safe and person-centred support
– Ensuring your input shapes your service plan and supports
– Implementing continuous improvement based on your feedback – Protecting your identity if you report serious concerns
